Calling for a Fast
Episode #366
14 December 2013
With Martha Kilpatrick and hosted by John Enslow
Special guest: Jennifer Wentzel
(M) John at the end of one of your blogs you offered to give my message from 1998 on the judgment of America. And you added a podcast to the end and so forth.
(J) Yeah the post was called, “What Profit a Prophet” and it was on December 2nd and there was a follow-up post on December 3rd called “Mercy Over Judgment.”
(M) And I think you were objecting to the strident prophecies and I’ve seen another one today that someone sent me. And you know I really sort of not forgotten, but wasn’t relating to that message that far back but I realized in your edited version of it and your introduction, how deeply God has done the work that I set out to do without my cooperation. I wanted to become fit, and He has done that in spite of me. I have lost a good bit of weight and I’m swimming and exercising. And many things have happened to us in the interval since 1998 including a lot of are publishing. So, that was on my mind. At first I thought I had failed to live up to this and then I realized how much God has done. He undertook that commitment, as He usually does, and He absolutely performed it. And then I realized that all of my conferences for the last two or three years or four years have all been about His return and the suffering that is coming. And I feel right now, there still going to be about that with our March conference called Love Reigns. It’s about you ruling and reigning in this life. And I feel that I have done my little calling to equip people to live in the times that are coming rather than telling them how bad it’s going to be.
(J) hmm hmm, that’s right
(M) And I have a sense of satisfaction and in my spirit I feel like I have fulfilled His calling to me in different ways. It was first the Coming One then The Body of Christ then . . .
(Jennifer) Children It’s The Last Hour and then the Reign of Grace and the Reign of the Kingdom
(M) Okay, all of those are about how to rule and reign, now. So in light of that, I was just spending some time with the Lord over several days and my Bible literally every time I opened it it would open to Joel 2. And that’s, towards the end of it is the prayer that He will pour out his Spirit on all flesh. And I’ve prayed this for years because it’s about your children, your young men, your old men, it’s everyone. Your maids and male and female servants. It’s Joel 2:28. It will come about after this that I will pour out my Spirit on all mankind. And your sons and daughters will prophesy and your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on the male and female servants I will pour out my Spirit in those days. And then He goes on to talk about the signs of the last days in the moon and sun. And about the third time my Bible opened to it I said, I think I better stop here and (giggle) look around a bit. And so I went back to the first and read several times. And I realize there was a sequence here. It calls three or four times for the mourning and weeping of the priests and ministers, and that to everybody is. The priest in the New Testament is not an office of one person over others, every believer is to be a priest and minister to the Lord. So it’s a call to all of us to mourning and weep. And He says in first 14 of chapter one, consecrate a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly, gather the elders and so forth, for the day of the Lord is near and it will come as destruction from the Almighty. And then He talks about the coming tribulation or troubles likened to locus coming through and just eating everything. So there’s a call for mourning, a call for fasting and then this verse that has been so key in Jennifer’s life and is catching fire on other lives too. Jennifer will you read your verse, you’ve told the story of it and your repentance.
(Jennifer) Yeah, I have it memorized.
(M) So you don’t need your Bible.
(Jennifer) I don’t (giggle) I had to double check it it’s actually Joel 2:12-13 in the Amplified and this was the answer to, I didn’t even consider it a prayer at the time, it was just a desperate cry so that I would not be where I was. I wanted to know how to come to Him no matter what.
(M) How long ago was this?
(Jennifer) That was March 2011 (laughs) yeah, so a couple years now. And it has been… It has contained the answer every single time so it is been my life verse and He has exploded it and showed me different levels and layers throughout it, so…
Joel 2:12-13 Amplified Bible (AMP)
Therefore also now, says the Lord, turn and keep on coming to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning [until every hindrance is removed and the broken fellowship is restored]. Rend your hearts and not your garments and return to the Lord, your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in loving-kindness; and He revokes His sentence of evil [when His conditions are met].
And that kind of covered every base for me, His sovereignty, the fact that it’s Him, it’s always Him that I come with. Every situation, every circumstance He is over it. It is all His, and when He has what He wants, it’s done. And yeah, perfect…
(J) It’s such a totally amazing scripture. I mean really. If you just taking a break it down you know line by line just look at it, It is a, just rock solid Scripture.
(M) It’s powerful and I’ve never seen it, to take it in from the Amplified. So you’ve really given this body a huge gift. And I know someone who’s living in it right now, in the Amplified version. So that’s, the mourning comes, the fasting comes and then comes this wonderful awful repentance, we’re God’s conditions are met and so He relents of what he wanted to do. And then the second time after that it says blow the trumpet in Zion, consecrate a fast, gather the people and so forth. Let the priest again, the Lord’s ministers, weep between the porch and the altar. I looked this up and I did not know, I just always passed over that, that means we in the front of the entrance to the Holy of Holies. The priests and the ministers go into the Holy Place and in front of the entrance there was the altar of burnt coals, that signified prayers going up. So they were coming as close to God as they could come with mourning and weeping. And then it says gather the people and no one is exempt, the bride and the bridegroom have to come, the children come, the nursing infants come to this fast. And so, I love two phrases, one is “then,” that’s the result of what comes after something, “so that” is also . . .we do this so that. The Lord calls for this, so that. And I love this so that’s, I always underlined this so that’s. So I realize that there’s a whole lot that precedes this outpouring of the Spirit. And it says in verse 18, then after the second called to fast, the second or third call for mourning, and I’ve really asked the Lord for tears. Several people have written me that they have had them, and I’ve had one season but my tears were not morning they were joy. So I’m still praying for the mourning tears. But several people of experience that, that I’m going to tell you about in a minute. He says, I will remove the northern army far from you and drive it into a parched land, into the sea and it stench will arise. Do not fear the land rejoice and be glad for the Lord has done great things, do not fear. And then in 23 it says rejoice over sons of Zion and be glad in the Lord your God he is given you the early rain for your vindication, and He’s poured down for you the rain, the early and latter rain as before. And then there’s fullness and prosperity and the outpouring of the Spirit, then the signs and wonders that are going to come. I will display wonders in the sky, blood, fire, columns of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood. Those are things mentioned in, I think, Matthew that those are the signs before His coming. So I see from that that, that there’s going to be another great outpouring of the Spirit. So I called us to a fast. And in the meantime Carole has found this book by Derek Prince. We were looking at his proclamations, I think we did a podcast on the proclamations, didn’t we?, okay. And that has been so powerful. We had A proclamation before the ladies conference in New Mexico that was given to us by Lori Thomas and I believe it was very powerful in what happened in that conference and afterwards. But Carole found this other book by Derek Prince, “Shaping History through Prayer and Fasting.” And I’m so excited because were going to carry this book. I’m telling you this is the greatest book on prayer I think I’ve ever read. The beginning of it just blew me away because you can trust Derek Prince to make it solid on Scripture and then an experience, and that’s what he does in this book, it’s phenomenal. And I (laugh) had a little prayer experience that I want to tell about, because he shows in this that it is so simple to pray a mighty prayer that changes history. He tells about his wife Lidia and I met Lidia. Funny little woman, very serious. She thought American women were very silly and I couldn’t argue (laughter) as I laughed and giggled. But anyway, she just prayed in one of the early formations of the nation of Israel, paralyze the Arabs. And then in one of their first wars, their house was on the front lines. They had a house with eight children. And so there were Israeli soldiers camping in their backyard. And they would invite them in. And one of the men said, you know it’s funny, when we go to battle it’s like the Arabs are paralyzed. They make no resistance. And they were outnumbered outlandishly. And all she said was, the prayer God gave her, paralyzed the Arabs (laugh). So anyway, several weeks ago, I was asleep, kind of asleep, and at 9 o’clock I got a text. And a friend of mine said, in kind of an emergency way, please pray for my son, he’s in a desperate situation. She told me the situation and I know about his life and I just… I didn’t talk to her, I just wrote her back and said okay. And then I said, well Lord, I’m tired and I don’t have a prayer. He said, “Ask for A miracle.” So I said, “Give a miracle.” And then I started weeping with that boys responsibilities. He’s trying so valiantly, so courageously to get his life on the right path and he has horrendous responsibilities. And I just wept for him in the spirit and I felt like that burden on him lifted just a little bit. Maybe, maybe I got to share his burden a little bit. Of course the next day everything had gone, just straighten completely out (laugh). But in the aftermath of that I have such a love for this young man, because I felt his anguish at trying to get things in his life going and valiantly taking hold of his responsibilities, which most men would not, I can’t tell you the details, but most men would not even take on what he’s taking on. So there was just this one simple prayer, give a miracle. And I think I still have that mentality, the more words the bigger the prayer and it’s not so. But that’s a sideline, anyway, but . . .
(J) I wish it was a sideline. ( Laugh)
(M) But the issue is getting the Spirit’s prayer and it doesn’t have to be said that one time, So his stories are quite phenomenal. But in the beginning of the book, he lays a foundation that judgment that comes on the earth, and this is what I’ve been doing for six conference,s because I believe it, But not as spoken as well as he and I was grounded in Scriptures he… O don’t stare at me, (laugh) but he absolutely proves that if you’re walking in obedience, if you’re surrendered to the Lord, the judgment will not touch you. And he sites Psalms 91, 10,000 will fall at your side and it will not touch you. You’ll be hidden in the secret place. So he absolutely ignited my faith, That no matter what’s coming, it will not touch… it’s Kingdom Safety.
(J) hmm hmm
(M) It will not touch those who are obedient and who are living in the Kingdom. And he gives many more examples and scriptures and so I’m just begging everybody to get that book, because it’s phenomenal. It’ll build your faith, it’ll build your knowledge of Scripture, it will undergird you with absolute confidence in prayer and the power of prayer, and the enormous power of prayer we have two effects history.
Dearest Martha and Family
I too am going through a very difficult time for my son, Noah. I would like to ask the body to please pray for him.. pray a miracle on his behalf. Today he called me and was contemplating suicide. I live in Florida, he is in PA. I called 911, and after much difficulty, but by the grace of God, He was taken to a psych hospital. He told the officer the one thing that kept him from doing it is he knows it’s a sin.. PRAISE GOD for that. I have been praying for my son, that he would turn back to the Lord. And my brother, whom you know, Steve and Cindy Pierson, have also been praying. But my son is in a dark place right now, and I am asking for my brothers and sisters in Christ to lift him up in prayer. Please pray for that miracle … Your sister in Christ, Sandi Hybiske
Yes, I will certainly pass this on and we will be praying. Please keep us up-to-date. You can email us at info@shulamite.com
Thank you Sandi!
