Operating Under The HEAD, Christ’s Headship
Episode #720
09/20/2020

With Martha Kilpatrick and hosted by John Enslow

This the continuation of a series of podcasts started in Episode #719
The church is those people connected to, under the Lordship of the Head, Christ. Those who operate from His thoughts, His will are church.

Martha:
Ephesians 1, it starts at verse 20. It’s God’s power over Christ and in Christ.

Ephesians 1:20-22 HCSB
He demonstrated this power in the Messiah by raising Him from the dead and seating Him at His right hand in the heavens— far above every ruler and authority, power and dominion, and every title given, not only in this age but also in the one to come.

God demonstrated the power of resurrection by raising the Messiah from the dead. But He, and He put Him above every ruler, power and dominion in this age and the age to come. Who’s at the, who’s at the top of this world and life? Jesus!

It’s goes on to say, Paul writing this:

He (God) put everything under His feet and appointed Him as head over everything for the church, which is His body, the fullness of the One who fills all things in every way.

Christ has been elevated above everything.

The Amplified reads it this way:

And He (God) has put all things under (Christ’s) His feet and has appointed Him the universal and supreme Head of the church [a headship exercised throughout the church].

I’ve read every, every verse that is about the Headship of Christ. So I’ll just you the New, The New King James.

He (God) put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church.

But the, but the best translation is:

He was appointed universal and supreme head of the church. He alone is the leader of the church.

Now what that means is Christ is the head, the supreme and universal head. He’s head of the whole universe of the church. That means that the church is Christ as the Head.

In the human body the head, the brain, the mind, the thoughts rule everything. How your brain decides to go you go. The head is the ruler of your body. And even your thoughts and your, the function of your brain. Your brain controls your body and your thoughts control you.

So God’s put everything under Jesus’ power. The church is, therefore, whoever is under the Head, whoever submits to the Head, to the thinking of Christ, to the decisions of Christ. Your head makes the decisions. Your emotions are involved but you can say that your head is the place of your will and your decisions and your direction.

And so the church is only those people who are connected to, under the Lordship of the Head. and those who operate from His thoughts, His will that is church.

The one who is not connected to the head…Here’s, here’s in Colossians 1:18:

Colossians 2:18 ESVS
Let no one disqualify you insisting on asceticism and the worship of angels…

Which are really just things.

…along with details about visions…

On and on religious things.

…puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.

John:
That sensuousness doesn’t have necessarily be a sexual thing. It’s a lust of the mind. It’s a grasping, grabbing, snatching, it’s, it, that…Yeah, it’s craziness. And sexual lust doesn’t speak it but the, the passion that you see in sexual lust is, is can be seen in our pursuit of knowledge that it’s that madness.

Martha:
Wow, it is.

John:
That you have that, that…

Martha:
That drive.

John:
…that drive. Yeah. You know, the sexual passion, I mean, you know, the Lord gave that to us to procreate, to…But then it’s twisted by Satan and then it becomes a madness where you, you can’t even get free in your mind and your body and that is exactly what it gets with the knowledge.

Let me read that same verse in the Passion.

Ephesians 1:22 TPT
And He alone is the leader and source of everything needed in the church. God has put everything beneath the authority of Jesus Christ and has given him the highest rank above all others.

So He’s head of the church. It’s so clear. That means that only under the Headship are we in church. When we’re in church, it means we’re under the Head in obedience and submission to His thoughts above our own. That’s what makes you in church.

So it’s not a list in the domination. There can be church inside of a non-church because the church consist of those who live under His thoughts. That is an absolute requirement to be church.

And everything is given to the church. I’m seeing that like never before that God’s whole investment is in the church. If you’re connected to the Head, you have access to His thoughts, His miracles, His ways, His gifts, His unsearchable riches. That…If you’re not in the connection of hearing Him…It’s why Jesus could say, “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” That’s to hear God is life. Now we have to hear God.

John:
We can’t live without it.

Martha:
We can’t live without Him.

John:
Right.

Martha:
And…But He has given everything. He’s given us this Book and preserved it through the centuries so that it’s reliable and inerrant. There’s no error there; the error’s in either in the translator or the reader.

But if we can understand that the pastor is not the head of the local church. Jesus is the Head of the local church. Jesus is the Head of everywhere that claims to be church. But He isn’t given His position as Head so that everything comes from Him.

In, in the tape that you mentioned, John, I said that I’ve been to, I had been at that point to, to church leadership meetings where the staff of the church would meet and we would discuss different ideas and then we would pick what ideas we thought was fine for the church.

Martha:
Which was best!

Martha:
Which was best! Which we thought…

John:
Which we thought was best.

Martha…
We thought.

John:
Um hmm.

Martha:
We might pray over it. We might ask the Lord to give us guidance. But then we would think it through.

John:
Absolutely.

Martha:
And at the end of it we’d, we’d think we’d done real well because we had a plan.

John:
Yeah, we chose the one and, and gave it the gold, gold star.

Martha:
Yeah, and we went after it and gave everything to it and invested in it.

John:
Right.

Martha:
And sometimes it looked like it succeeded and sometimes it didn’t. But that was short lived. But that, that my experience is how typical domination comes to…

John:
Most.

Martha:
…most of them come to just reason and thoughts and asking the Holy Spirit, maybe. But you’re not listening. It’s one thing to…

John:
Really what they’re doing is they’re asking for the blessing of what they choose.

Martha:
Of what they choose. Right. That’s good.

So, but to function under the Headship is every decision comes down to you by hearing and by listening and waiting and surrendering. You, you don’t have any agenda of your own if you are church.

So the church exists. Those who are under the Headship are, are part of that universal, supreme organization called the Body of Christ.

John:
Um hmm.

Martha:
And, and it’s, it solved some mysteries for me in, in scripture that what is given to one person who’s under the Head can go to the entire body of Christ.

John:
Right.

Martha:
So the rev…We often found the revelation that we were in within other people, too.

John:
Right.

Martha:
And I thought that’s so wonderful the Holy Spirit spreads it around. Yes, of course, He does but it is only to those under the Head who are listening to the decision, the leadership, the direction, and the wisdom of the Head.

John:
That’s why someone in China and someone in the US and someone in Slovakia can all be on the same message.

Martha:
Right because the church is one.

John:
Right.

Martha:
No many, a thousand. The church is one thing. And if everyone who is in the, under the head is in church, the real church that’s functioning.

John:
Right.

Martha:
And the problem is not that the church isn’t functioning. There’s a lot being said right now by the church not rising up. Well and my answer is the church is rising up.

John:
Right.

Martha:
We may not see what the real church is doing or comprehend it but the church is in place and functioning under Jesus’ direction.

John:
Right.

Martha:
And Jesus being the Head gives them His will, His thoughts, His direction, His wisdom. It’s really very exciting.

John:
So if you’re a pastor under the Head, you’re just a representative of what the Head’s thoughts and will and mind is.

Martha:
Right. You’re the one who listens, submits to, goes to the Head and you’re filled with His ideas then you can say you’re the servant of the Head and you’re in the church. But it changes every…And that’s what it did to you when you read that.

John:
Um hmm.

Martha:
Because it means the, the church is Christ.

John:
Christ.

Martha:
And His, His Body. The extension of His mind is His Body and we are His Body if we’re under the Headship. And unfortunately because of our ability to learn so much religious things, we can read, and we can build on what we read, and all of that…

John:
Or glean off of what others have said.

Martha:
Yes, uh huh. And, and the Holy Spirit is, is the one who conveys the mind of God to us.

John:
Um hmm, um hmm.

Martha:
It’s the Holy Spirit who goes before God and it says so in the scripture. Only the Spirit knows what is in the heart of God.

John:
Right.

Martha:
The Spirit goes before God and then He brings to us the, the words and the concepts and the directions and the will of God.

Operating Under The HEAD, Christ’s Headship – Episode #720 – Shulamite Ministries

When we’re in church, it means we’re under the Head in obedience and submission to His thoughts and will above our own. That’s what makes us church. Not Buildings, denominations, or even similar vision.

  1. Celia says:

This is so good and so important. What I have been sensing is that we must be in order. So often, like you mention about knowledge, we can elevate that above Christ, but also giftings, relationships within the church, the desire to be family, projects, activities, etc. Those must flow from the Head, with the Head acknowledged as supreme, and above all the other things. Otherwise all the things that we think are good and strive for, become Idols that we are replacing Christ with, all while we think we are honoring Him. The fruit must come from the Head and not the other way around or we are spinning our wheels and producing lifeless chaff, at best, and abominations at worst. Jesus, first, all, everything. Lord, let us give you your rightful place!
